By Major Andy Pilling, Company Commander, No 3 (Somme) Company

No 3 (Somme) Company has this week opened the detachment doors to the cadets. With Detachments in Stockport, Bredbury, Reddish, Hyde, Cheadle Hulme, Levenshulme and Rusholme all ready to open to their cadets this week, following the successful opening of Stockport Detachment last week.

Regrettably the Detachment Commander from Cheadle Hulme was COVID pinged and has to self isolate. Although he is fine and has no symptoms he is disappointed that after so long away he has to delay another week.

On Monday the Detachments at Stockport, Bredbury and Reddish opened and welcomed their cadets. At Stockport, Cadet RSM Logan Walter called in and gave staff a hand by teaching a lesson.

On Thursday the Detachments at Hyde, Levenshulme and Rusholme opened their doors and welcomed their cadets back. At Hyde Detachment the Company Commander, Major Pilling was joined by the RSM, RSMI Craddock, conducting his first visit to a detachment since lockdown. Cadet RSM Logan Walter also attended, this being his last visit as the Cadet RSM has his 18th birthday next week.

Even though it was his last night the Cadet RSM joined in with building the best bridge and boat out of straws and connectors. Cadets can get competitive, but it was all in good fun.

The Cadet RSM has been an inspiration to cadets from No 3 (Somme) Company. He has supported the online sessions and cadets seeing what they can become when they see him at their Detachment. The Company wishes him well in his future.

As our cadets look forward now to Annual Camp and getting back to parading at their Detachments we are now looking at new recruits.

If you are interested in joining cadets, and will be age 12 and over and in year 8 in September, call down to your local Detachment after the 6th September. You will be welcomed and who knows you could could be the future Cadet RSM.

As a note the plan is to open 2 nights a week after annual camp.
