By Major Wayne Harrison, Company Commander, No (Somme) Company
Over the weekend, 2-4 June, No 2 (Kohima) Company and No 3 (Somme) Company joined forces to do a 1 star & 2 star navigation and expedition weekend at Borefold Scout camp, Derbyshire.
82 cadets and 18 Cadet Force Adult Volunteers spent the glorious sunny weekend doing camp craft, cooking, navigation training and expedition.
Plenty of water drunk and sun cream was used with highs of 24 degrees.
Arriving at the camp cadets were handed their tents and shown to their home/field for the weekend after pitching their tents and enjoying a hot dog or a sandwich it was back to their tents for a restful night ready for their hike on Saturday.
On the Saturday an early start of 7am to prep their kit, have breakfast, make their packed lunches and plan their routes. With the last group leaving the camp site by 11am. On return to the camp it was a wash up and soaking of feet before cooking dinner. Once dinner has finished in good scouting fashion it was time to relax by the fire pit prepared by the staff.
Another early start of 7am on the Sunday. Packing up camp and preparing for the second day of walking for the 2 stars and Nav training, camp craft, command tasks and STEM kits for the one stars.
A very successful and enjoyable weekend had by all.
