We continue highlighting the fantastic work our amazing Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) during National Volunteers’ Week.

Sergeant Major Instructor (SMI) Patricia Dring originally joined as a cadet in 2008 and caught the military bug, which later sadly stopped her dream career with the British Army due to a knee injury.

When leaving the Army, her Sergeant recommended for her to “keep her green head on” and re-join the Army Cadets as an Instructor and although it was only meant to be temporary Patricia has not looked back!

As an Army Wife to a serving solider Patricia has excelled at the challenges she has faced with the cadets including setting up a detachment based in Cyprus when her husband was stationed there. “It really does help to keep my sanity and take me away from the usual Monday to Friday!” said Patricia.

Now as a Detachment Commander for Abbots Park, Patricia runs a successful detachment “I have seen so many young people join the cadets with no confidence and my role is to support them to achieve as much as possible setting them up for later life” said Patricia
