Cadets and instructors from Mexborough Detachment were one of the invited groups to help mark the special occasion. Cadet Karyss Nowell (14) had the honour of being chosen to carry the standard, following some special training with the Royal British Legion (RBL) in the weeks leading up to the celebration at her detachment. Where her ability and respect shone through.

There was a short parade at St Margaret’s Parish Church Swinton, where the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, Andrew Coombe took the salute, before he and and the Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Jennie Andrews attended a blessing of the Victoria Cross Memorial and a reading of the names of the fallen.

Cadet Nowell said: “it is a proud day to carry and lower the standard on behalf of my Detachment and RBL, and paying our respects to the fallen.”
