  • 1st Battalion The Highlanders ACF

The last three months we have all seen some of the most challenging circumstances that most of us have ever experienced.

I would like to thank all the cadets who were able to take part in some of the online lessons, quizzes and challenges that were set for them. There have certainly been some fantastic ideas and imaginative use of technology.

The knowledge gained will help you to progress through your star levels when we return to normal training. The training resources will remain in place and will allow you to revise or catch up if you missed any of the lessons.

Most of all I want to thank all the Battalion adults who have worked so hard to plan and prepare the lessons and activities. Their ability to adapt to the new challenges has been inspirational and I am very grateful to have such talented staff.

We would normally be preparing to go to our Annual Camp at this time, which unfortunately had to be cancelled. We always stand down at the beginning of July to allow a rest before camp. To that end I have taken the decision to stand down the Battalion for four weeks, starting on Thursday 2nd July. This will allow everyone to relax and recharge their batteries and spend much needed time with friends, families and loved ones.

We will return to our Online Training Programme on the 3rd August, with the aim of preparing everyone to return to our Detachments in early September. We will issue further instructions around those plans in August, but it is likely to follow the guidelines operated by the schools and will be subject to change dependent on the situation.

Providing all goes well, we are hoping to run a week’s camp for junior cadets in Dingwall during the October break and a separate week for senior cadets. We will issue further details in August and will only go ahead if it is safe to do so.

I hope that you all get a chance to relax and have an enjoyable summer holiday and I look forward to seeing you in person soon.
