MALTON DETACHMENT CADET RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

8 May 2021

  • National

On Thursday evening (6th May), Cadet Sgt Rosie Nelson from A Company's Malton Detachment was the happy recipient of an award from the Fellmongers Company. The award was in recognition of her extensive volunteering during the past twelve months.

The Fellmongers Company of Richmond, North Yorkshire, is an ancient craft and trading company which has its origin in the Middle Ages. Many years ago, they adopted the Green Howards because of that regiment's links to the town. After the Green Howards became 2nd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regt, the connection continued, and has extended to affiliated cadet units in the North Yorkshire area.

Every year, the Fellmongers Company conduct an awards ceremony in recognition of achievements within The Yorkshire Regiment family. This year, because of Covid-19 restrictions, the ceremony was conducted online.

Luckily for Cadet Sgt Nelson, Company Commander, Major Michelle Goodwin, watched the ceremony with her at Malton Detachment, then made the presentation in person!

Cadet Sergeant Nelson's proactive efforts to improve the standards of both physical and mental health in her community epitomise the 'can do' attitude that we foster in our members. Well done!
