Cadet Sergeant Major Ethan Thompson has been appointed a Lord Lieutenants Cadet for 2021 by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Clwyd Mr. Henry Fetherstonhaugh Esq. OBE FRAGS

Lord-Lieutenant cadets are selected for their outstanding extra-curricular achievements and can be called upon to accompany Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Clwyd Mr. Henry Fetherstonhaugh Esq. at official engagements. Include playing an active role at ceremonial events, such as Royal visits and Remembrance services held in Clwyd.

Cadet CSM Ethan Thompson from Rossett Detachment has been an army cadet for four years. In this time he has proved himself to be an excellent role model for those junior to him and is well respected by his peers and adult instructors.

Ethan has represented the county and Wales in events such as summer and winter sports, as well as the Cadet Skill at Arms Meeting and Brigade Cambrian Patrol Competition he has completed his Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme Bronze Award and is enrolled at Silver. Ethan is an integral part of his local detachment, and in normal times he is a regular attendee and has no hesitation in assisting with instructing those cadets who are junior to him, at recent cadet camps he has taken on the role of section commander and has proved himself to be extremely capable of command under the pressure field conditions. His peers respect his contributions and he has a close-knit group of friends within the organisation

During the Covid lockdown, Ethan has maintained the enthusiasm to engage with the cadets and adults at his Detachment, as well as this he has prepared for and passed his Master Cadet interview with the Colonel Cadets Wales. He has aspirations to serve in the capacity of Staff Cadet when he reaches the age of 18 years.

Ethan said “It’s such an honour to be made Lord Lieutenant Cadet for Clwyd for 2021. I’m hoping that I will be able to fulfill the role and carry out the associated duties well, giving the ongoing events.”

Commandant Col Martin L Craven said “Cadets like Ethan epitomise everything that the ACF stands for: pride, integrity, confidence, humility, compassion: a leader who empowers and strives to support the development of others” adding “Ethan is a deserving recipient of the role he has been selected for, and we know that he will take every advantage of the opportunities and challenges that it brings her way when the current restrictions are lifted.”
