Lighting of the Platinum Jubilee Beacon for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
Sir Warren Smith, Her Majesty The Queen’s Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester arrived at Holcombe Moor to meet the cadets who were to attend the Lighting of the Platinum Jubilee Beacon at Peel Tower, Holcombe Hill.
After speaking with the cadets, it was time to leave for Peel Tower in the county minibuses. The first to arrive at Peel Tower was Greater Manchester ACF Corps of Drums who set themselves up in the front of the tower where they played to the crowds that had arrived to witness the Lighting of the Jubilee Beacon.
The Queen was the first to Light a Beacon at Windsor Castle which then triggered the lighting of Jubilee Beacons across the UK at 9.45pm.
Sir Warren Smith, HM Lord-Lieutenant checked his watch and then proceeded to Light the Jubilee Beacon watched by our Hon Col Sharman Birtles JP DL Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, our Commandant Col Catherine Harrison, cadets, staff and hundreds of members of the public who came to witness the Lighting of the historic Platinum Jubilee Beacon.
