Over the weekend of 22-24 October, cadets from the county took part in their long-awaited Silver DofE Expedition. 18 cadets from No 3 (Somme), No 4 (Korea) and No 5 (Anzio) Company all completed their Silver DofE qualifying expedition based around the south of the West Pennine Moors.

The four groups taking part, successfully completed the three day and two night expedition which covered over 28 miles (44 km) in some very challenging conditions which completely tested their skills, fitness and mental resilience.

All participants experienced a variety of emotions over the three days as the unpredictable October weather gave them a taste of wind, rain and sunshine each day. On completion of the expedition all the participants agreed this had challenged them more than they had expected and each one said they have all taken away valuable experiences, some that will change their approach and outlook on daily life.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award not only provides an internationally recognised qualification, it is also a superb platform to develop important skills and qualities such as leadership, teamwork, discipline, confidence, these are just some of the many reasons.

Well done to all the cadets for working hard in your teams over the weekend.

Thank you to Capt Townson and Lt Emma Harrison for the photos.
