DORSET GOLD DOFE RECIPIENTS GATHER AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE

Last Friday a group of ex Cadets and current Adult Volunteers finally got the opportunity to attend Buckingham Palace for the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award Presentations. Lockdown has mean't that many of our Young people have had to wait a few years to get this opportunity but they and their families had a very special day indeed.

Congratulations to Alisha Anning, Amy Robbins and Callum Brown who all attended in honour of their Gold Award Achievements.

A special mention to E Company Commander and Brigade D of E Advisor Major Kerry Barker who was selected from the Army Cadet Contingent to meet his Royal Highness the Earl of Wessex on the day. Attendees were treated to tea and delicious cupcakes as well as entertainment from some terrific military bands as well as having the opportunity to listen to some presentations. Stands included Careers with speeches from the Apprentice and Countdowns Nick Hewer and Ex Chief BA pilot Mike Bannister who was the worlds most experienced Concorde Pilot.

The Adventure stage featured our very own ACF Ambassador, Sally Orange who holds multiple world records and is a Mental Health Advocate and Pip Stewart whose adventures have taken her to paddle the length of the Essequibo, South Americas third largest river.

After the National Anthem we heard from HRH The Earl of Wessex, himself a Gold Award holder as well as Youth DofE Ambassador Lira Lewis. The speeches ended with a magical end from Harry Potters Weasley twins, James and Oliver Phelps who are huge supporters of the Award.

In order to complete a Gold Award, participants must complete Volunteering, Physical and Skill Sections as well as attending a Residential. The award also includes the Expedition with many of our participants making memories and pushing their own personal limits.Huge Congratulations to all of the Award Holders!

If you would like to find out more about taking part in the DofE award then talk to your Detachment Commander or our County DofE Officer, Captain Wheatley.
