On our third parade night back, Bredbury Detachment had a surprise visit from former Bredbury Cadet Sergeant Harry Atherton.

Harry joined Bredbury Detachment, No 3 (Somme) Company 4 years ago and took part in everything that was on offer, excelling in all aspects of the cadet syllabus, to name a few he went on exercise with Canadian Cadets, competed at Regional and National Sports Events and attended many camps and weekends away.

During the pandemic Harry was successful in being accepted into the British Army after passing the highest fitness entry level and started as a junior applicant at the Army Foundation College Harrogate in September 2020. On Thursday 5 August Harry completed the 49 weeks course and graduated from the college with a passing out ceremony. He has a short break before starting his Phase Two Infantry Training Course at Catterick.

He now has one of the hardest courses to pass. He will spend 14 weeks at Catterick before joining the Parachute Regiment. I am confident he will do it.

To thank Harry for his commitment and leadership to No 3 (Somme) Company he was presented with a gift which was purchased during lockdown but the opportunity to present it didn’t happen until now. From all the staff and cadets, we wish Harry the very best for the future and look forward to hearing from him soon. We are all very proud of him.
