Major Glen Yarr, Training Major for Greater Manchester ACF & Contingent Commander with CCF in the role of Lieutenant Colonel.

Newman (Roman Catholic) School Combined Cadet Force

Lord-Lieutenants Award for Meritorious Service

Already a key leader within Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force with over 20 years’ experience, you could forgive Lieutenant Colonel Glen Yarr for wanting to ration his cadet duties. However, such is his passion to serve young people, he took on the additional role of the first Contingent Commander for Newman; a role he does whilst also remaining as Training Major for Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force.

Since opening in October 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Yarr has driven the unit that now hosts over 150 young people and 7 adult leaders. His commitment to the cause is exemplified in his conduct during lockdown, with a plethora of virtual and extra-curricular events meaning that young people remain connected and active in the cadet movement. During his time as Commander, he has hosted a visit from the Secretary of State for Defence, raised over £4,000 to enhance the unit equipment and planned to attend the International Military Pilgrimage to Lourdes, which was only stopped by Covid.

Finally, he has established a network of support for other Combined Cadet Forces locally in the Cadets Expansion Programme model. He has led with vigour and optimism, typifying the aspiration of the Cadet movement, and making a positive difference in the lives of so many young people.

Lieutenant Colonel Glen Yarr is awarded a Lord-Lieutenants’ award for Meritorious Service.
