What an amazing day!

Day one of Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force Annual Camp 2022.

A very early start for all cadets. Meeting at locations arranged with their detachment staff as early as 7.30am. The first coach arrived at camp just after 11.30am with the final one arriving at 2.30pm.

On arrival the cadets were taken to their accommodation to drop their bags and suitcases, and everything else they have brought along! All cadets were then taken straight to the dining room for lunch.

After lunch the cadets were welcomed by our Commandant, Col Catherine Harrison. (See here the live video posted on facebook earlier today)

All cadets were then given a safeguarding brief by RSMI Dougie Craddock who spoke to the cadets about who to speak to on camp if any issues, where to go to if feeling unwell and most importantly having fun. Col Catherine Harrison, Commandant, and Lt Col Paul Smillie, Deputy Commandant spoke to all the adults to update them on the plans for camp.

The rest of the day was spent putting cadets into their training groups, letting the cadets know the training programme which starts tomorrow for them all, having more food, and then finishing off the evening enjoying time with old friends and making new friends in the naafi.

The staff who have put Annual Camp together and the adults who have left their families to come to Annual Camp to give the cadets a fantastic cadet experience are amazing. They will do everything they can to ensure the cadets have a great time. Thank you to all of them for making the camp possible.

We have over 300 cadets and over 100 adults on camp. For many cadets this is their first annual camp and it will be their longest time spent away from home. That’s incredible and makes me so proud to be part of a fantastic organisation.
