Each day gets better. Today we had Phil Campion visit the County. Phil Campion is the National Army Cadets Champion. He served in the regular army for 15 years which included 5 years in the SAS. For more on Phil click here Phil Campion | ACF Cadet Champion | Army Cadets UK

After meeting with our Commandant, Col Catherine Harrison, Phil went out on the training area of the camp to meet and chat with cadets and answer questions they had and spoke with them about their aspirations. The cadets and staff were all happy to meet him. He joined in some of the activities the cadets were taking part in which was great to see, and the cadets enjoyed. Listening to what he spoke about was very interesting and I’m sure he inspired many cadets by their reactions to him.

Whilst out on the area Phil had been asked by Col Harrison if he would like to present three adult volunteers with their long service medal and a clasp, as she believed the staff involved would be happy with this. She was not wrong. The first presentation was made to SSI Martin Taylor for 12 years voluntary service with Greater Manchester ACF. SSI Taylor said he couldn’t have felt prouder to be given the medal by Phil during cadets training and in front of the cadets.

On the area the senior cadets were staying, Phil presented SSI Gemma Chappel with a clasp which will go onto her medal which she received 6 years ago. SSI Chappel has now volunteered for 18 years.

The final medal of long service was to SMI Matt Hilton who has volunteered with Greater Manchester ACF for 12 years.

Thank you to staff for your continued hard work and dedication to Greater Manchester ACF. You are truly valued by all.

After a busy morning and some lunch Phil went out to meet all the cadets who were training on camp. The activities were Archery, Shooting, using the STEM kits and a bit of drill which Phil took part in.

Today was a great day. Thank you to Phil for coming to visit us and don’t forget the invitation from Col Harrison to come and visit the cadets at Holcombe Moor Training Camp where you will be very welcome. Phil said he would be really happy too.
