SMI Debbie Callaghan, County Media Officer
Greater Manchester ACF conducted an Adult Training Weekend at Holcombe Moor Training Centre over the weekend 13-15 January to brief the County Adult Volunteers on training events for the next 12 months and celebrate the Queens Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS).
NWRFCA Engagement Team Geoff Newsome and Victoria Doran gave a presentation on how North West Reserve Forces' and Cadets Association can support staff and the cadet units. Other topics included employer support to Cadet Force Adult Volunteers to help staff with speaking to their employers about the Armed Forces Covenant and how to submit a Lord Lieutenants Award, and more.
Once the presentations by staff were finished our Hon Colonel Sharman Birtles MBE JP DL, Vice Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, presented a Long Service Clasp to Lt Hayley May, SMI Alan Ryan and SSI John Urysz and a Lord-Lieutenant Commendation to Senior Padre Rev Dr (Major) Fr Gerard Fieldhouse Byrne and a Lord-Lieutenant Meritorious Service to SMI Mike Toner. Fr. Gerard was also presented with his Queens Jubilee Medal.
The next award to be presented was the Queens Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS). More on this amazing award for our adult volunteers to follow.
