The Army Cadet Charitable Trust UK (ACCT UK) is a National Youth Charity dedicated to improving the life chances of young people through access to the Army Cadets. The charity also develops the youth leadership and training abilities of adult volunteers in the Army Cadets.
ACCT UK has asked each cadet unit in the UK to help with The Cadet Challenge 2023. The Cadet Challenge is to raise funds to help more cadets access more opportunities. Every penny will make a difference to cadets in Greater Manchester ACF and across the UK.
To start off the fundraising Col Harrison asked her family and friends to sponsor her whilst taking part in the Great North SwimRun.
More on this from Col Harrison.
“I first registered for the Great North SwimRun in 2020. It was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid and in 2022 due to bad weather. It went ahead on the 10th June 2023.
I have never done a SwimRun event before and this was just meant to be a personal challenge - not a fundraiser - but it coincides too well with the ACCT UK Cadet Challenge to ignore the chance to kick start Greater Manchester's support for our own great charity.
ACCT UK has provided grants for a whole range of cadet activities in Greater Manchester, so it's only right that we give back what we can.
After taking part in the Great North SwimRun Col Harrison said:
“Saturday 10th June was so hot. This meant the water in Windermere was a very pleasant 19 degrees but running in a wetsuit was very challenging. I completed the course in 2:33:35 - placing me 142 out of 193. And as with any first.... I now have a personal best.
Thank you to everyone who made a donation - it certainly kept me going on the final swim stage.”
Well done Col Harrison. You are an inspiration to everyone in Greater Manchester ACF.
