Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major Sophie Moule was selected to attend the highly prestigious Royal Geographical Society Explorers Conference in South Kensington, London from 4-6th November 2022.

Together with Cadet Sergeant Lilly Miller from Beds and Herts ACF, and supported by a group of adult instructors, they set up a stand at the conference to promote the adventurous activities (AT) undertaken by the ACF. Both have significant AT experience, with RSM Moule having participated in Exercise Solent Challenger, a demanding sailing expedition, and Exercise Knoydart Challenger, a five-day expedition in the Scottish Highlands. As a seasoned expedition member with a taste for adventure, possessing great communication skills and being our most senior cadet, RSM Moule was the perfect person to represent our County and the ACF in general.

She was very positive about the experience, saying she used every opportunity to; ‘get ourselves in public eye and promote the opportunities the ACF gives young people. We also got to sit in some of the conferences, listen to different speakers, including a man who gave a motivational talk about climbing Everest, and another about how to get funding from the Royal Geographical Society. We were really happy with the amount of people we were able to speak to, and the level of interest we got. It got people to see what we do. Lots of people didn’t know what the ACF does. We promoted not just AT, but the ACF in general.’

She also said; ‘It is an absolute privilege to be offered such a phenomenal experience funded by the National Geographic and the ACF! It was really good to be able to participate and promote our amazing organisation as well as seeing the adult instructors again that I got to know on the national adventurous training expeditions. It was incredibly exciting to take part in this conference- just one of the great opportunities I’ve had through the ACF!'
