Cavalry Old Comrades Parade

A visit to London - by SI M Rose

Cavalry Old Comrades Parade

16 May 2023

  • Humberside And South Yorkshire ACF

12 cadets and 4 adults from Doncaster and CoD travelled to London on may 14th 2023 to take part in the Combined Cavalry Old Comrades Association parade in Hyde park.

On a beautiful spring day the cadets handed out Order of Service books to veterans and serving members of the cavalry regiments as well as taking part in the parade with cadets from L NR, Notts and Royal Yeomanry based in Wiltshire.

The annual event sees cavalrymen gathering to take part in the tribute, which honours servicemen and women who've lost their lives fighting for their country since the First World War.

The soldiers march to the Cavalry memorial, which is made from melted down metal used in enemy guns captured in the First World War. The statue shows patron saint of the Cavalry, St George and is made from captured enemy guns.

The cadets were led by an ACF Corps of Drums from Wiltshire. To top off the parade the Duke of Kent , who took the salute , came and spoke to the Cadets. All who attended behaved impeccably and were congratulated by many senior ranks on parade. A credit to Company, County and ACF.

The Combined Cavalry Old Comrades Association has invited the cadets back next year where hopefully they can stay over for a few days.
