Tom Knights has been appointed Medical Support Officer (MSO) for the County and promoted to the rank of Captain.
Captain Knights joined the ACF as a cadet in 2008, becoming an adult instructor in 2015. He became DC of Sawston three years later and received his commission in January 2019.
From 2016 onwards he has worked for the East of England Ambulance Service, starting as a student paramedic and then qualifying as an Emergency Medical Technician, before completing a Higher Education Diploma in Paramedic Science at Anglia Ruskin University and starting work as a qualified paramedic in 2019. His role as MSO will be in medical planning for Annual Camp and other events, dealing with first aid incidents, supporting other first aiders, and helping to ensure cadets safety throughout their training.

He takes over from Captain Alistair Findlater who has gone onto a national ACF medical role, to develop and support how MSOs work.
Commandant Colonel Fraser-Hitchen promoted Captain Knights to his new rank and appointment via a virtual ceremony on 9th February, saying: “you will be perfect in the role and I am genuinely looking forward to working with you. I’m delighted to have you on the team.”

Captain Knights is promoted at the virtual ceremony.
Captain Knights said: “I’m really pleased to have been appointed as the new MSO. I am excited to begin supporting the county in getting cadets and CFAV’s back to face to face training in the near future.”
