Cadets Tyler Barnes and Kyle Madden

Lord-Lieutenants Commendation for Cadets

In the early evening of Thursday 8 October 2020, Cadets Tyler Barnes and Kyle Madden, both of Hyde Detachment, Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force, were out together when they witnessed a boy, who having received an assault on his person had collapsed to the floor. As a result of his injuries, the boy suddenly began to have a seizure.

Both Cadet Barnes and Cadet Madden, thinking on their feet, went to the assistance of the boy to administer First Aid. Ensuring the boy was safe and away from further harm, they remained with him until the emergency services arrived whereupon he was taken to hospital.

The casualty was examined at a hospital where he was diagnosed as having bruising to the brain and although he was discharged soon after, he has no recollection of the incident.

Although both cadet Barnes and Cadet Madden were shaken by the incident, they were still able to use the First Aid training they had received to give valuable assistance to the casualty. They are a credit to both their Detachment and the wider Army Cadet Force community. By their actions both cadets showed experience beyond their years. They are an example to others and exemplify many of the Army Cadet Forces Values and Standards

Cadets Tyler Barnes and Kyle Madden are awarded a Lord-Lieutenants’ Commendation for Cadets
