Col Catherine Harrison, Commandant, was delighted to receive the gift of a bench, on behalf of Greater Manchester ACF, from our former Commandant, Col Dr Paul Irvine, and his wife Mrs Caroline Irvine.

The bench will be used by cadets and adults, and for the cadets and staff who was a member of Greater Manchester ACF during Col Irvine’s tenure from 2016 to 2020, fond memories will be remembered and shared whilst sitting or passing the bench.

Col Dr Paul Irvine said “My time at Greater Manchester ACF was amongst the happiest times I had in my 40-year adult volunteer career, and I will always have the fondest memories of my time there. Col Mike Glover set the lead, and I often sat on his bench thinking of his contribution to the County and, as there were only two benches with seating for three people each, it just felt natural to continue the pattern so more cadets and adults could sit. Also, and most important, I wanted something with Caroline's name on. So many of us are only able to do what we do because our wives, husbands or partners support us, and I wanted Caroline's name to be a symbolic gesture to them all.”

A truly lovely gesture and gift to Greater Manchester ACF. Thank you.
