Corporal Marshall Neill a member of Coleraine College Detachment and a keen rower and whilst out rowing he noticed the amount of rubbish and discarded litter growing on the banks of the River Bann over lockdown.
Marshall decided to try an improve his local environment for both wildlife and walkers by giving up time over several weekends by collecting and disposing of the litter correctly. He has also kept his fellow rowers and cadets informed of his progress, hoping to educate other young people to get involved in keeping this area tidy.

Lt Stephen Lyons one of the 1st Battalion John Muir Ambassadors said, Marshall has made a vast improvement in a local area by tidying the riverbank which has made the area more pleasant for people exercising and using the river walk.
John Muir Award is named after John Muir an environmentalist born in Scotland and encourages people to take part in projects to improve their areas, the 1st Battalion are keen participators in this award under the leadership of the two battalion ambassadors, Lt Stephen Lyons, and SSI Amanda Roxbrough.
