3 (Ironside) Company celebrates the Platinum Jubilee.

The Platinum Jubilee has been a fantastic opportunity for our cadets to celebrate the event and engage with the community. Over the bank holiday many of our cadets were out and about, acting as superb ambassadors for our organisation and its Values and Standards.

The first event was hosted by Soham Detachment, who, along with cadets from Burwell and Newmarket, joined in for an excellent afternoon at the Soham Jubilee. The Royal British Legion put on a ‘It’s a knockout’ team competition comprising of – ‘beat the goalie’, laser clay shoot, a basketball shoot-out, mobile climbing wall & hamster balls. The cadets enjoyed participating in all of them, and one of our teams, ‘Black Ops’, won the competition.

On Friday, the Newmarket Parade was a success, and had a great turnout of cadets. SSI Drummond led the parade from the Memorial Hall up the High Street to the Jubilee party where the Detachment manned a stall and talked to potential recruits about what they do. Simultaneously, Sawston Detachment supported the Sawston Parade and church service, and some of them made the journey across the county to contribute to the Newmarket event.

SSI Drummond said: 'The Jubilee Parade was a good day out for all. The sun was out which made it even better. Both CFAVs and Cadets really enjoyed the parade through Newmarket. It was a successful event for the ACF, giving us the chance to reconnect with the community.'

The final event of the weekend was held at the Burwell Recreation ground, and saw massive support from cadets and adult volunteers from Burwell and surrounding detachments.

As well as setting up a recruitment stand, the cadets ran four different games. Initially, they competed just against one another, with Cdt S Greenwood (Soham Detachment) winning the competition. Later on, the people of Burwell got the chance to participate. Our cadets engaged with the community with great enthusiasm, giving out tickets to the winners which gave them the chance to win prizes.

A big thank you goes out to the Adult Volunteers for their support, to parents for taking time out of their day to bring cadets to the events, and to the many cadets who gave up their own time up to support the events and so positively represent the ACF to the general public. Well done everybody!
