On Sunday 18th June 2023, 300 cadets from contingents from across Surrey attended a service at Guildford Cathedral to support the work of the Surrey Joint Service Charities and raise awareness of the beginning of Armed Forces Week. These units comprised of Army Cadets, Air Cadets, Sea Cadets, Royal Marine Cadets, Combined Cadet Force and Police Cadets.
The service was conducted by the Very Reverend Dianna Gwilliams, Dean of Guildford Cathedral with the assistance of Cannon Gilly Myers.
Several dignities attended who were the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey Michael More-Molyneux, Brigadier Paul Evans OBE DL, Colonel Patrick Crowley MBE DL, Cannon Peter Bruinvels, High Sheriff of Surrey Mr Timothy Wates, Cllr Saj Hussain Chair of Surrey County Council, Mayor of Guildford Cllr Masuk Miah and Supt Tom Budd Surrey Police.
The Commandant wishes to specially thank Cdt Cpl Megan Ritchie (Farnham Detachment) for reading a prayer in the Service.After the service the cadets paraded outside and raised the Armed Forces Flag to signify the start of Armed Forces Week.
The cadets then marched off with Surrey ACF Corp of Drums taking the lead and the banner party arranged by CSM Chessman.
The Lord Lieutenant took the salute of all marching cadets and adults commenting on how smart everyone was and that the foot drill was at a very high standard.
A big thank you to all the adult instructors and cadets supporting this event and to the parents/carers allowing them to partake especially on Father’s Day.
