Developing New Adult Volunteers
It was a busy and productive weekend across HSY ACF as CFAVs and new adult volunteers took part in a wide range of training and development opportunities across the County.
New adult volunteers attended the Safe Person Training Weekend, helping them build the foundations required to begin their journey as CFAVs within HSY ACF. The weekend provided important guidance and practical learning to support volunteers as they progress through their initial training.
Basic Induction Training Continues
Basic Induction Training (BIT) also continued throughout the weekend, with volunteers completing BIT 2 Navigation Training and BIT 4 Fieldcraft Training.
These courses continue to develop the core skills and knowledge required to support cadet training safely and effectively while building confidence in delivering activities within the ACF environment.
Adult Development Training
Alongside this, adult development training was delivered in several key areas across the weekend, including:
• First Aid at Work + TQ
• Drill and Turnout
• Exercise Conducting Officer Refresher
The Drill and Turnout package gave CFAVs the opportunity to develop and refine their instructional techniques, personal standards and confidence when delivering drill on parade nights and at County events. Drill remains a key part of cadet training, helping to reinforce discipline, teamwork and attention to detail while building confidence and leadership skills amongst cadets.
Meanwhile, the Exercise Conducting Officer Refresher ensured CFAVs remained current and confident in delivering safe and effective physical training sessions across the County.
Supporting the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
Four CFAVs also successfully completed the Practical Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Skills Course, developing their understanding of how to effectively support cadets working towards their DofE awards and expeditions.
Sgt Matthew Millward said:
“It was well worth attending the course, giving clarity and guidance on how to support cadets through their DofE. It was exactly what I was looking for to help me as a Detachment Commander.”
Sgt Annamarie Burd added:
“If you want to learn how to lead DofE, do this course!”
Investing in Adult Development
Training weekends such as these continue to play a vital role in developing knowledgeable and capable CFAVs, ensuring cadets across HSY ACF receive safe, engaging and rewarding training opportunities.
