On the evening of 3rd February 2024, Cadet Lainey Clark of No 5 (Anzio) Company demonstrated remarkable courage and presence of mind during a tragic incident in Leigh town centre.<\/p>\n

At approximately 5:30 pm, outside Pizza Hut on Market Street, a male casualty was found face down, unresponsive, and not breathing. Cadet Clark, who was meeting friends nearby, was alerted by a phone call about the emergency. Upon arrival at the scene, she witnessed another member of the public already on the phone with emergency services, receiving instructions and initiating CPR.<\/p>\n

Without hesitation, Cadet Clark assisted in the resuscitation efforts, taking turns administering CPR and providing rescue breaths alongside another member of the public. Their combined efforts continued for approximately 10-15 minutes before emergency services arrived.<\/p>\n

The Air Ambulance, Police, and Ambulance Service attended the scene. Paramedics utilised a defibrillator and a Halo device in their efforts to revive the casualty. Despite all attempts, the man was sadly declared deceased at the scene. Cadet Clark\u2019s details were taken by the Police, and she was offered support by both the attending officers and paramedics before being taken home.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, 11 January, Cadet Lainey Clark attended Holcombe Moor Training Camp where she was presented with the prestigious award from the Royal Humane Society in recognition of her commendable efforts in attempting to save a man’s life. This award was presented to her by Honorary Colonel Sharman Birtles MBE JP DL, Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, in the presence of her grandparents, parents, sister, and her best friend.<\/p>\n

Speaking about Cadet Clark, her grandmother Maxine expressed immense pride in her granddaughter, noting that this was not the first time Lainey had shown kindness and heroism. Recently, she assisted an elderly lady who had fallen and been injured, accompanying her to the hospital and staying with her until the lady’s family arrived.<\/p>\n

Cadet Lainey Clark\u2019s calm response and willingness to assist in distressing situations reflect the highest values of the Army Cadet Force, demonstrating bravery, compassion, and leadership in the face of adversity.<\/p>\n
