Cadets and staff from various Detachments, including from the County area Ballymoney, Dalriada Limavady, Coleraine and our City Detachments Drumahoe, Limavady, Lisneal, and Newbuildings, gathered to receive their shamrock from Mr. Ian Crowe MBE CStJ, His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for the County Borough of Londonderry. This cherished military tradition recognises the dedication and hard work of the cadets & staff throughout the year.

A poignant moment of the day was marked by three cheers for His Majesty Lord Lieutenant for the County Brough of Londonderry led by B Company’s Commander, Major David Rutherford. This occasion was particularly significant as it will be Major Rutherford’s final St. Patrick’s Day parade as member of the Army Cadet Force before his retirement in September, after an impressive 50 years of service with the Irish Guards and the Army Cadet Force.

The event also celebrated the achievements of some adult staff members, who were awarded HM The Kings Coronation Medals along with a Cadet Service Medal presented for 12 Years of committed service to the Army Cadet Force. SMI Billy Lyle was honored by being presented The Imperial Service Medal for 40 years of meritorious service as a MOD Civil Servant highlighting the dedication to the units he had served.

A large number of family and friends proudly watched on as the cadets received their shamrock, a moment filled with joy and pride. The day concluded with refreshments and a raffle, with proceeds going towards supporting the battalion charity “The Children’s Hospice”

B Company 1st (NI) Battalion extends heartfelt congratulations to all participants and volunteers who contributed to making this day a memorable celebration of community spirit and dedication. Well done, everyone!
