Abigail Roberts

Winner of the ACFA Recognising Excellence Award (sponsored by BAE Systems) for Bands and Corps of Drums, Cadet Category

Abigail, from Clwyd and Gwynedd ACF, was recommended for the Recognising Excellence award by Lt Robert Morris, OC Corps of Drums Clwyd and Gwynedd ACF and Regional Music Advisor (Wales), who nominated her for her outstanding commitment to ACF Corps of Drums.

"Drum Major Abigail Roberts has been a member of Clwyd and Gwynedd Army Cadet Force for five years. She has shown commitment and dedication to the ACF by attending all training weekends and Corps of Drums events, as well as completing her four star in both the music and military syllabi. She strives to achieve more than just the core syllabus by gaining a Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award and participating in Battalion sporting events. Drum Major Roberts has also increased her musical knowledge by passing her four-star Army Proficiency Certificate on the Military Fife and by learning new marches on a monthly basis.

Since Drum Major Roberts gained her two star, in both music and military syllabi, she has taught other cadets many skills, from taking part in drill to playing the fife and encouraging cadets who were initially not so confident in their own ability, to assisting in creating a strong Corps of Drums at county level. From this, she has earned the respect of her peers and has become a role model to the younger cadets as well as a leader within Clwyd and Gwynedd ACF.

Drum Major Roberts surprised both her peers and her adult instructors with her outstanding performance in last October's Senior Drum Major Competition at the National Music Concentration where, on receipt of the title of National Drum Major, her voice carried authority around the hall, leaving jaws dropping to the floor in amazement.

Drum Major Roberts is an inspirational cadet who has strived to inspire other cadets to achieve, just as she has done."
