Steps to Join the Army Cadets as a Volunteer

Start by locating your nearest detachment. There are local units throughout England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland where you can get involved.

Fill out the online expression of interest form to let us know you’re keen to get involved.

Your local county HQ will receive a notification that you’re interested in volunteering. They’ll usually contact you directly and they’ll give you access to complete an online application form. They will also reach out to invite you to attend an informal interview.

The interview is your chance to find out more about the Army Cadets and ask questions. It also helps us learn a bit more about you and why you’re interested in joining.

If you decide to go ahead, you’ll be guided through our familiarisation and assessment package over the following weeks. This process is designed to:

  • Give you a real insight into the organisation and the role
  • Help you understand what being an adult volunteer involves
  • Allow us to assess your suitability for volunteering with young people
