Royal thank you for adult volunteers
2 June 2010
On Wednesday 2 June 2010 over 1000 cadet force adult volunteers from all over the United Kingdom descended on the Guildhall in the nation’s capital for a Cadet150 reception generously hosted by the City of London.
The reception was held at lunchtime on 2 June in the superb surroundings of the Guildhall to thank adult volunteers, uniformed and civilian, past and present for their support, which in turn has enabled thousands of young people to participate in the cadet experience.
The event started with speeches by the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff General Sir Nicholas Houghton and Lord Mayor Nicholas Anstee in the presence of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. During his speech, General Sir Nicholas Houghton said ‘Today, particularly we recognise the efforts of the adult volunteers, uniformed and civilian, past and present, who have given their own time and resources to develop and train many thousands of young people’.
The event was also attended by Under-Secretary of State for Defence Andrew Robathan, First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshall Sir Stephen Dalton.
Following the reception, volunteers and cadets from the Corps of Drums of the South East London Army Cadet Force performed a fantastic Beat Retreat in the sunny Guildhall Yard, with the Vice Chief of the Defence and Lord Mayor taking the salute.
