W company ski trip to Tignes France
The W Company ski trip is now in its eight year, and both cadets and adult volunteers took part in the trip to Tignes in the French Alps this January.

Lt Barry Lister (Rothbury Det) headed the group as senior officer along with cadets and adults from Alnwick, Broomhill and Belford. Staying at an altitude of 2100 metres did cause a few nose bleeds, but briefing on water intake, rest and causes of sickness, prevented any member of the group becoming ill. Both AV SI Andi Allan (Adult Volunteer Sergeant Instructor) and PI Ross Holman (Potential Instructor) had never skied before and took part in lessons at the beginning of the week, this proved to be invaluable as by mid week they were both skiing around the mountains, with the occasional fall to entertain the group. The weather was superb and conditions perfect after a large fall of snow the week before.

Other activities that took place throughout the week included, ice diving, having a dry suit and oxygen tank on, then descending through the frozen lake to explore what lies beneath in the cold waters. Photos show Cadet Cpl Meg Straker & Cadet Lcpl Hanna Rogerson (Alnwick det) being shown the ropes of how to survive the icy lake.

Husky riding was also on the menu. Being put in charge of a sledge with husky dogs pulling you through the snow was no problem for Lt Lister, who looked very at home with his new friends.

A fun day on the slopes brought out some strange people as the photos show, prize for the best outfit was AV SI Andi Allan (the Blue blob) apparently he has worn this out on several occasions !! The RSM (Regimental Sergeant Major) decided to have a day away Speed Riding, strapping a small parachute to your back and skiing off downhill. He came back with a new hobby to be pencilled in.

The group also won the hotel music quiz with its broad cross section of age and musical knowledge.
A very enjoyable and successful week was had by all, with everyone taking part in the activities that were on offer. W Company would like to thank both County HQ and Brigade HQ for its support in making the trip another memorable one in the ACF history books.
