LINCOLNSHIRE ARMY CADETS BATTLE IT OUT AT THE REGIONAL ATHLETICS

Over 40 army cadets from detachments around Lincolnshire Army Cadet Force battled it out at the Regional Athletics competition which took place at the Princess Royal Stadium at Boston on Sunday 13th May.  The cadets had all previously took part in an inter Company/Squadron competition and the team was selected to represent Lincolnshire.  The weather was a total contrast to the selection weekend when it poured with rain all day, at least today the sun shone albeit a bit windy on the back straight of the running track.

The competition was a very close run event after several first places which included Cpl Hannigan from Grantham who ran the 400m in 55 seconds beating his own personal best, Cdt Kent from Caistor who stepped in at the last minute to do the junior girls high jump and came first, Cdt Sgt Major Asken from Grantham won the Javelin, Cadet’s Slater from Crowland and Brewster from Skegness both first in the 100m and 200m respectively plus many more.

At the end of the competition we had to wait a further 15 minutes or so whilst the final results were still being counted.  We still had no idea how well we had done, then came the results we came 2nd in the Junior Boys, 1st in the Intermediate boys, 3rd in the senior boys, 3rd in Junior Girls, 4th in Intermediate Girls and 1st in Senior Girls and won overall boys and overall girls and finished with a win of the whole competition.

A fantastic result to the end of a very close and competitive competition.
