Deal Detachment of the Kent Army Cadet Force (KACF) recently received £2500 funding from Kent County Council’s Youth Opportunity Fund. This generous donation has enabled the purchase of essential first aid equipment which is being used across East Kent to train cadets.
Cadet Staff Sergeant Kieran Marshall (16) and Corporals Jonathan Buckle (14), Thomas Knights (15) and Chloe Friend (17), all from Deal, applied for the grant in order to kit out 10 A Company Detachments (across East Kent).
The money has enabled the purchase of twelve Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) mannequins , a hundred sets of training bandages, a training Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and other first aid essentials. So far the equipment has been used to train over a hundred cadets and adults within KACF and gain Deal Detachment the title of Regional Competition Winners and 5th place in the National First Aid Competition held at Royal Military Academy (RMA) Sandhurst.
Cadet Staff Sergeant Kieran Marshall, Deal Detachments senior cadet said:
“Having this first aid equipment available to us has opened up a wide range of opportunities for, I never thought that I would be entering and enjoying a competition completely dedicated to first aid, now I can’t wait for next year’s competition and hopefully we will get the rare and most coveted Gold First Aid Badge as National First Aid Team Winners.”
KCC Head of Integrated Youth Services Nigel Baker said: " The Youth Opportunity Fund has supported hundreds of youth groups and young people across the county over the last few years; decisions on how the Fund is distributed are made by young people themselves and I know they were delighted to help the Kent Army Cadet Force. They give young people the opportunity to learn valuable life skills and we are keen to support such organisations that make a real difference to the lives of young people."
