24.10.11

Cadets from all over C Company met at Southend Detachment to receive a talk made by the Army Presentation Team.

Captain Iain Ross serving seven year’s with the Royal Regiment of Scotland and Corporal Paul Cashmore who served with the Royal Logistic Corp for nine years.

The team provided the cadets with a broader understanding of the army, and how they tackle current affairs.

They also explained the purpose of the and what the army does beyond dealing with conflicts, this includes at home with natural disasters and soon the Olympics, giving aid in Africa and training the military in Iraq.

The presentation was broken up by a number of short videos giving an overview of the Army with their training and other aspects such as adventurous training and sport.

To round off Capt Ross and Cpl Cashmore discussed Army values which they adhere to along with the Army’s view on discrimination and bullying. They talked about the advancement and development of medical and welfare support for the soldiers along with the duty of care.

The final video to finish it all off was a commentary from the Chief of General Staff Sir Peter Wall summarising what had been mentioned by the presentation team.

The evening was a nice change of pace for the cadets. It was extremely informative, teaching the cadets just what the Army is and does besides what they may learn from a computer games or see in films.
