Shoebury Cadets dazzle crowds

Shoebury Cadets proudly opened a fireworks display by skilfully marching around the garrison in front of locals.

On the eve of this recent fireworks night C Company cadets put on an impressive display of foot drill (marching). The dazzled crowd watched in awe as cadets performed movements with commands and without (silent drill). The silent drill is a pre rehearsed drill routine in which the cadets will rely only on memory and perfect timing.

Detachment Commander Sergeant John Calnan said “I was very pleased with all the cadets and they put on a great show. The event organiser couldn’t thank us enough and is coming to our detachment to present us with some tins of sweets.” John plans to return with the cadets next year.

The cadets started their special presentation by marching on to be inspected by Sergeant Calnan, giving crowds an opportunity to watch an inspection of the cadets. The cadets then marched around with pride under the command of Lance Corporal Connor Seldon. If this wasn’t enough the cadets showed off by performing their amazing silent drill routine designed by Sergeant Major Ray Mackenzie.

When the cadets finished their fantastic show they marched off to an applauding audience. With a signal from Sergeant Calnan, the Royal Artillery Association fired a 77mm blank cartridge through a 25 pounder Artillery Gun to mark the start of the fireworks.

The fireworks themselves provided a spectacular finish to what was a spectacular start.
