Each year the adult instructors from C Company attend the Cadet Training Centre in Colchester to up date their training.

They are tested on their Red Book which outlines the rules to ensure safe training. It also includes a data handling test to make certain adults understand how to treat sensitive information such as cadet’s personal details.

The adults also a refresher of their Weapons Handling Tests (WHT’s) in a number of weapons including a No.8 Rifle, L98A2 Cadet GP Rifle and the Light Support Weapon (LSW).

This year it also included the new CZ 200 Cadet Scorpion Air Rifle. The rifle was bought earlier this year and is currently stored at County HQ until all adults receive the necessary training.

C Company jumped at the chance to be the first to put it through its paces under the guidance of County Shooting Officer, Lt Barry Davison.

Being the first of Essex’s Instructors to handle the weapon, C Company was able to put forward constructive suggestions as to any changes needed in the new drills.

All 16 instructors passed the training and test which now allows them to use the weapons at a detachment with suitable space to shoot.
