With a large wound from the top of his head down towards his forehead, there was already a significant amount of blood loss.
Jacob remembered his first aid training from a cadet training lesson and quickly applied pressure to the wound.
Knowing that his friend needed urgent medical assistance he bravely called a passer-by for help instructing them to call an ambulance.
Despite the shocking scene of blood Jacob remained calm and constantly reassured his friend.
When the paramedics arrived they praised Jacob for his actions which had inevitably saved Stephen’s life.
Stephen required 54 stitches and later had plastic surgery to the five inch wound.
It was this life saving action that won Jacob the Humanitarian Citizen 2011.
