Cadets make waves at national swimming

19.10.11

This weekend was the final round of the swimming competition which saw the best swimmers from across all the regions compete for the national title.

Two cadets from Essex joined forces with others from across the Eastern region in a bid to retain the title.

The team of 20 competitors wasted no time in winning medal after medal, claiming a staggering 27 out of 36 gold medals and breaking seven records.

Cdt Tom Vickers of Parsons Heath Detachment took a gold in butterfly and backstroke and the freestyle relay. Not to be outdone Cdt Richardson also of Parsons Heath won a gold in backstroke and freestyle relay.

Both Essex cadets also broke the existing records for backstroke.

Overall Eastern region cadets won all four categories and with 243 points which is 24 points more than last year leading them once again to the national winner’s title.
