Almost 100 Cadets from A Company attended the CTC in Colchester this weekend to celebrate Christmas. The Annual Christmas camp saw the cadets and almost 30 CFAV’s descend upon the CTC which looks very much like a building site with the improvements there now well underway.

Space was short in the camp due to much of the Drill square being taken up by contractors but that did not stop the enthusiast youngsters from enjoying a varied and exciting program of training.

Saturday saw the cadets involved in a round robin competition, which took them out over the training area in near artic conditions to compete in a variety of events including shooting, archery, first aid, a patrol alley and a mine clearance exercise.

The cold weather added an extra challenge but certainly helped the cadet’s to navigate home for there hot Christmas dinner, which was served by the adults of the company.

And in the spirit of Christmas the officers and senior NCO’s dished up a roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings whilst wearing festive hats! The hats ranged from a traditional Santa hat to upturned turkeys and home made efforts adorned with baubles and glitter!

The cadets had a chance to vote for the ‘best’ hat and winning by a good margin was SI Tooey.

After the hearty meal the cadets enjoyed a disco and dance to keep warm!

Sunday on a much depleted drill square saw the inaugural A Company drill competition. The event was won with a spectacular display from Stanford le Hope.

After the drill competition in the shelter of the range building the final parade was held in the presence of the Cadet Commandant who gave out a number of awards – he crowned Warley as the victors of the contest on the Saturday and gave out Cadet Force medals and bars to a number of long standing instructors.

Col Monk branded the weekend a great success and indeed all the assembled cadets and instructors found it an enjoyable way to end the year.
