Frodsham Detachment Visit.

London, capital city, bustling metropolis, home of democracy and where some Frodsham Detachment cadets decided it would be a great place to visit for a project. PRO

Very, very early on Saturday 3rd December 15 cadets from Frodsham Detachment set off on a road trip to London to visit the National Army Museum and attend the British Military Show.  The aim of the trip was to build military knowledge at all levels, learn about the role of the ABF (who the cadets have collected for on numerous occasions) and have some well earned fun.

We arrived at the National Army Museum amid an interesting Blitz demonstration.  The cadets then broke into their star wings to view the exhibits and find examples to complete their workbooks.  The most popular exhibit appeared to be World Wars, 1905-1947, as the cadets found it hard to believe the scale of casualties and the level of equipment the soldiers had to use.

Our next stop was Earls Court for the British Military Show.  Before taking their seats the cadets had chance to look around the stands, and most headed straight for the Chinook helicopter for a good look round.  They had an opportunity to visit the ABF stand where we could write messages to the forces out in Afghanistan and place them on a Christmas tree.  The show started with a series of Paratroopers dropping in from high-wires and kept the cadets entertained with displays from the PT Corps, the Signals motor-bike team and the Royal Marines Band, to name just a few.  The USA drill team seriously impressed the audience with their almost silent drill display.  The highlight for most was a re-enactment of the role that ISAF plays in Afghanistan – it included a brief fire-fight, a neutralising of a rogue vehicle and a re-building of a bombed bridge by the Royal Engineers.

The trip was a great success; facts were found, information was gained and a great experience was had by all.  SI Williams and SI Gregson’s hopes for a quiet journey home were short-lived – as ‘Kadet Karaoke’ continued all the way home.  Who knew teenagers could sing so many songs, for so long!
