About The DofE:

The Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme is a youth development scheme established by Duke of Edinburgh in 1956 Focusing on 4 keys sections of Expedition, Volunteering, Skills, Physical and Residential (gold level) Activity the award inspires youths from 14 to 25 years old to develop their personal life skills through interesting and challenging activities.

Levels & Ages:

There are three levels of award, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each award involving increasing levels of commitment to the 4 sections of Expedition, Volunteering, Skills and Physical.
Bronze Award is open to cadets from 14 years old and involves 3 months of volunteering, physical activity, and skill plus an additional 3 months of one section in either volunteering, physical activity, and skill. A 2 day, 1 night expedition completes the Bronze Award.
Silver Award is open to cadets from 14 years old and involves 6 months of volunteering, 3 months of physical activity and skill plus an additional 3 months of either physical activity or skill. A 3 day, 2 night expedition completes the Silver Award.
Gold Award is open to cadets from 16 years old and involves 12 months of volunteering, 6 months of physical activity and skill plus an additional 6 months of either physical activity or skill. The expedition runs over 4 days and 3 nights, with an additional residential activity for 5 day and 4 nights to complete the Gold Award.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme helps youths develop their personal life skills such as self confidence, organisation, tenacity, teamwork, self discipline and sense of community. These skills are highly valued by employers and hence the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme is one of the most sought after and recognised vocational qualifications outside higher education.

How to Join:

Cadets from the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Bn ACF can join the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme through their Detachment Commander, who will liaise with their Company DofE Representatives.
